I would just like to thank all the people who gave up their time on Sunday to help with the 10km, and also all the competitors who braved the heat to put in some gutsy performances. Without you it wouldn’t have happened. Thanks again.
As far as the race was concerned, it was a tale of two clubs. The pace was set by Ian Mansell of Dudley & Kingswinford until there barely more than a mile to go, when Matt Giles of Stourbridge shifted up a gear and quickly carved out a substantial lead. Ian had no answer and came in 30 seconds behind. Louise Hey of Stourbridge was first home in the women's race, beating Tipton's Sue Street by 15 seconds, making it double honours for the club.
In the team event, it was Sparkhill Harriers who took home both the men's and women’s prizes.
Of the 104 finishers a massive 74 were unattached, with Mark Nicolson the first across the line in a highly respectable 40:02.
I have a couple of ideas about improving next year’s race. If you have any ideas please don’t hesitate to contact me.
Once again THANK YOU!
Martin Foster
Race Director, Bournville Harriers
