Paul D, Ed and myself did the second race in the Summer Midweek Series at Arrow Valley Park on Wednesday 11th June, this week.
Although it states a 10k multi terrain race, it is actually 7.2ish miles of mainly off road running. It was a tough little course, with a rather nasty hill about halfway round and as it was a two lap race, I was dreading doing the hill again almost as soon as I had done it the first time, if that makes sense.
Again the goodies given out were worth more than the entry fee, another drinks bottle, a gel and three, count em, three sachets of energy drink mixes.
Most of the course was bone dry with ankle twisting hoof prints etc, but there were a couple of areas beneath the trees where the mud probably never dries and I was glad I had taken Paul's advice and worn off road trainers.
There were quite a few areas where speed was dictated by the runner in front as passing was not an option, but being stuck behind a slower runner can be an excuse to have a bit of a breather. As usual Ed shot off with the leaders and I didn't see him again till the finish line, Paul and myself came in on about 54 minutes with only a few seconds separating us.
Next race is on the 9th July at Droitwich high School
