Some of the more observant members of the club may have spotted to link to the new forum at the bottom left of the website. The new forum addresses the shortcomings of the old one - not least the lack of accountability for postings - and has loads of neat new features. The downside is that you need to register to get full access.
Features
New features include:
-
optional automatic login
-
optional email notification when someone replies to your message
-
a private messaging system between forum members
-
the ability to put links, pictures and “smilies” in messages
-
the ability to run polls
-
the ability to add an “avatar” (picture) that appears next to your messages.
Purpose
It is hoped that the forum will be a useful way for members to share information and advice about running - e.g. arrange race entry, lift shares, training and injury advice, good deals on kit etc.
Structure
The forum is split into two sections - “General” and “BvH members”.
-
Anyone, registered or not can read messages in the General section.
-
To post messages in the General section you need to go through the registration steps below.
-
To read and post messages in the BvH members section, you need to register AND be a paid up BvH member.
How to register
1) Click the forum link on the main website
2) Click the 'Register' link at the top of the page.

3) Please read the terms & conditions, and if you are happy with them click the appropriate link.
4) Fill in the username, password, valid email address and any other details you want.
5) Then enter the letters/numbers from the picture in the “confirmation code” box below the picture.
6) This screen also has various options that can be changed, but you probably won’t need to, unless you want to be sent an email when someone replies to a posting you have made. If this is the case change “Always notify me of replies” to Yes. Then click submit.

7) An email will then be sent immediately to the email address you provided (so make sure it exists!), with a internet link in it. Click on the link in the email (or copy and paste it into your web browser) to validate your registration.
8) You can now post messages in the non-member forum.
Then, if you’re a club member, either wait for me to spot that you have registered, or follow these additional steps that will notify me that you’ve applied to access the member section
9) Register first (see steps 1-8) and log in.
10) Click the 'Usergroups' link at the top of the main page.
11) Click 'View information' next to the 'BvH member' group.
12) Click the link to apply to join the group on the next screen.
13) An email will automatically be sent to me, and, assuming you are a club member, you will be granted access using your normal username and password within a day or two.
To save the hassle of logging in each time, you can check the box to stay logged in, but don't do this if you share your computer with other people.
