A total of 12 of us ran at the weekend, finishing 8th team in the Senior race and 4 th team in the Masters. As most people will already know, there is only 1 division for the women and so we are competing against women who are potentially the best cross country runners in the midlands. I think that coming ahead of well established teams like Wolves & Bilston, Stratford and others really is a fantastic result. If I ever do feel disappointed, this is what I remind myself of because I think it's really important to put our performances in perspective.
On Saturday, the course was everything I was dreading it would be – mud, standing water, hills – but at least we were saved from the wind that had blown with a fury the previous day. There were a few new faces in the field of 136, including three new speedy juniors up the front which certainly helped to bump me back a few places and made me feel my age (how dare they?!!!) However, despite this new competition, Marianne still managed to improve her placing and finished in 22 nd place – a fantastic run. Big thanks to our 3rd counter Sally (36th) for still coming to represent Bournville despite moving away. Linda (39th) lead the rest of the team in and I have listed everyone's result below – well done to everyone who ran on Saturday. I personally think that anyone who braved that course deserves a medal! Finally a big thank you to everyone who helped organise and marshal the course – the support around the course was brilliant and I must give a special mention to Geoff who shouted us on half way up that **** hill. I plan for a complete role reversal next year Geoff and can't wait!
