Sean's FLM 2007 Training Diary wk9

Week 9 (26/2/07 –4/3/07) [Mileage for the week = 50]

Mon (26/2)

After a shorter run yesterday I was looking forward to cranking up the mileage this week but I’ve already got to got to parents evening on Tuesday and then babysit on Thursday. I got cold sweats on the train as the running devil sat on my shoulder screaming in my ear. “You’ve only got five opportunities to run this week….you slacker…..haha cackle cackle”.

This probably explains why instead of my normal gentle 35 min on the treadmill I pushed it to 55min with a 1.5% incline. It was only 8 miles but felt harder especially as I ran a negative split.

As I went to sleep the running angel was quietly whispering…”You could get up early and go to the gym……after last night you only need to do a gentle 4”.

Tue (27/2)

Woke up with that little running devil poking me in the eyes and calves. “Stay in bed and get another 30 min….your tired”.

The devil won!!!

No run today. Just some core stability work at home before going to bed.

Wed (28/2)

Such a topsey turvey week. I’ve been changing my mind about what to do every day because of not running tomorrow.

Started with 2 mile on the bike while I waited for the treadmill.

As yesterday was easy I ended up running a spontaneous fartlek on the treadmill. It started off with the intention of a brisk 3 miles. My intention was to do the same 17:30 run as last week but by even paced running this time of 5:50 miling rather than 6:00 and then racing in the last.  The running angel fluttered by so I did the first mile in 5:50 and then the second in 5:30. Feeling good and controlled the little devil then appeared and I pushed it to 5:00 pace. After ½ mile of that I reminded myself I wasn’t racing so got off the treadmill for a min rest. Feeling like a lightweight though I got back on and did the next mile in 6:00 with another ½ mile kick in at 5:00 pace.

So a completely bizarre 4 miles.

Rounded all that off with some weights.

Thur (1/3)

Babysitting tonight so another night off.

Fri (2/3)

Feeling fresh so an easy 10.5 miles ended up being a bit quicker. 1h 7min from Northfield to Quinton over the hills then down through Harborne and back via the canal, average of 6:25. Didn’t go through my Friday night routine of stretches.

Sat (3/3)

Paid for yesterday as I woke with really sore and stiff hamstrings and tendons. Never got them right at cross country and struggled. Only managed half the session before backing.

Made an effort in the afternoon to do more stretching for tomorrows run.

Sun (4/3)

Had a couple of glasses of wine last night but was fine for today. Hamstrings were fine for 50 min but then flared up and made the next 1h 40min difficult. Managed 21.5 miles in 2h29min.

Had a good session of stretches watching i-Robot so hopefully I wont have any problems with my hamstrings tomorrow.
